1. Always treat your hair with respect by having a healthy diet, regularly exercising and eliminating toxic producing habits.
2. Keep the use of heated hair appliances to a minimum. Overusing them will damage the cuticle and leave your hair dry and brittle.
3. Keep use of hairspray, mousse and gel to a minimum. Constantly bombarding your hair with a layer of chemicals may weaken it dull its texture. Hair needs to breathe to keep the cuticles healthy.
4. Do not wash your hair every day. The lathering agents in some shampoos strip it of natural oils, and some conditioners leave an oily residue, which sits on top of the hair, attracting dirt. Gentler, frequent wash shampoos are now available.
5. Prevent unnecessary hair fall by only dis-entangling your hair only after it has become dry. Hair is at its weakest when damp and may become damaged if a brush is dragged through it then.
6. Give yourself a daily gentle head massage for 5 minutes to stimulate circulation, which is vital for healthy hair growth. Using your fingers, work over the surface of the scalp, temples and back of the head, applying gentle pressure in circular movements. Another way of increasing blood supply to the head is to lie for a while with the level of your feet above that of your head.
7. Have a weekly deep conditioning warm oil scalp treatment. In Asian culture, lustrous hair is often maintained with an oil scalp massage.
8. In Japan, some people advocate tugging the hair itself slightly to stimulate further hair growth.
9. Spend more time outdoors. The combined effect of exercise such as walking together with fresh air can increase the oxygen supply to the scalp and thus stimulate healthy hair growth.
