| Essential Oils - How they work |
|
Application, inhalation and bathing are the three main methods used to encourage the entry of essential oils into the body.
Application: Essential oils are composed of tiny molecules which are easily dissolved in alcohol, emulsifiers and fats. Thus on application, say via a carrier oil, this allows them to penetrate the skin easily and work into the body by mixing with the fatty tissue and entering the blood stream and on towards organs. Once absorbed, the action of the oil depends upon its chemical constituents.
Inhalation: As these highly volatile essences evaporate they are also inhaled, thus entering the body via millions of sensitive cells that line the nasal passages. These send message directly to the brain, and affect the emotions by working on the limbic system, which also controls the major functions of the body.
Bathing: During massage and bathing using essential oils, we can inhale and absorb the oils through the skin simultaneously. Thus, essential oils are able to enhance both your physical and psychological wellbeing at the same time.
